Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. joined its peers hiking prices in 2017. The country’s largest carmaker raised prices across its entire range of offering by up to Rs 8,014 ex-showroom Delhi, with immediate effect, citing a rise in commodity, transportation, and administration costs as the reason.

The price rise ranges from Rs 1,500 and goes up to Rs 8,014, the company said in a release.

The automaker had last hiked vehicle prices in August 2016, when its high-selling compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) Vitara Brezza saw the highest jump at Rs 20,000.

Automakers typically increase prices of their vehicles during the month of January, and make announcements to that effect during December the previous year, in order to boost sales during the lean month. Several of Maruti Suzuki’s peers such as Tata Motors Ltd., Hyundai Motor India, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., and Toyota Kirloskar Motor, among others had announced in December that they would increase prices in the first month of the new calendar year.

Maruti Suzuki’s sales are likely to be impacted the least considering the high demand for several of its products, including Vitara Brezza and the Baleno hatchback, both of which command a waiting period running into months.
