The festival of lights turned the national capital into a city of darkness. Post Diwali, Delhi witnessed a thick layer of smog due to the high levels of pollution in the air. Though, the shopkeepers claim that firecracker sales have gone down this year, pollution levels were seen at record highs across the city.
As per System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), levels of Particulate Matter (PM) reached above the 500 mark. The highest levels seen around the Anand Vihar area at 999 (as of Saturday).
Social networking sites including Twitter and Facebook were flooded with pictures, memes and videos of the sad state of affairs.
