Sugar prices may rise in January and stabilise over time as the government withdraws its set limits on the stock holding of the commodity, said Narendra Murkumbi, vice chairman and managing director of Shree Renuka Sugars Ltd.

He labelled this advancement as an early sign of the government’s focus towards the agriculture sector, following its victory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assembly elections.

Going ahead, Murkumbi expects the government to scrap export duties on sugar to lift prices up from their depressed levels.
