U.K.’s Biggest Housebuilder Targets Zero Carbon Homes by 2030

Barratt Developments Plc has announced three new sustainability targets, including ensuring its new home design will be net-zero carbon from 2030.

The U.K.’s largest housebuilder by volume said that the target will be achieved through better insulation, more efficiency and the use of new green technology, according to a statement on Monday.

The firm, which said it wants to become the country’s most sustainable homebuilder, also plans to purchase 100% of its electricity from renewable sources within the next five years and to become a net-zero greenhouse gas emissions business by 2040.

The new targets come as homebuilders and property firms seek to burnish their green credentials. British Land Co., one of the U.K.’s biggest real estate investment trusts, has pledged to transform its portfolio to net-zero carbon, also by 2030.
