India’s largest dairy brand sent Google a legal notice, alleging the search engine giant benefited from Google Search ad campaigns which are being “misused to scam individuals in the name of Amul”.

This is certainly not an isolated case.

Bharat Patel, former Chairman of P&G fell prey to one such fake ad in November while searching for an authorised LG Service Center to fix his refrigerator. It cost him Rs 13,000 and the refrigerator broke down beyond repair within a couple of weeks.

While Google India responded to BloombergQuint’s query saying that the matter is being investigated, it is clear that Internet giant needs to fix the growing problem of fake ads quickly.
