What does the number 705742 mean to Twitter Inc. CEO Jack Dorsey? After nearly a full day guessing, Crypto Twitter may have its answer:

Dorsey tweeted out the singular figure at 3:29 p.m. in New York on Tuesday, leaving some watchers breathlessly attempting to guess how it might be related to digital currencies.

“Block number?” asked one follower. According to Blockchain.com, that is the number of a Bitcoin block that was mined not long after the tweet. An explanation wasn’t immediately forthcoming, but a couple of commentators suggested it might be Dorsey’s prediction for when Bitcoin would surpass its prior all-time high.

The record didn’t happen then, but the reasoning appears to have been on the right track. Dorsey tweeted “off by 117” just minutes after Bitcoin hit a new high right around the mining of block 705,859 -- just 117 away from the number that was initially proffered.

Dorsey frequently tweets about the crypto market. Last Friday he said in a thread that Square Inc., where he is CEO, would follow a hardware wallet model and “build in the open in collaboration with the community.” Twitter announced in September that it would let users send and receive tips using Bitcoin.

Neither Twitter nor Dorsey responded to requests for comment on the initial tweet.
