The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas always brings out the best of technology and some of the most innovative concepts as well. On that note, South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai has showcased its walking car project at the gala event which eerily looks very similar to a transformer (like in the movie).

Dubbed Elevate, the walking car concept has been shown as a miniature model with a glimpse into what the actual car design could be like. Judging by the looks of the, it’s definitely not a family car rather something that could be used by the military or for space exploration.

According to the company, the vehicle is capable of driving at highs speeds and it can climb a 5-foot wall as claimed by Hyundai. The rendered pictures and videos of the vehicle suggest that it has the ability to move like a four-legged robot and also double up as a traditional four-wheeler when needed. The car is being touted as the “Ultimate Mobility Vehicle” that combines technology from electric cars with robotics.

This design is uniquely capable of both mammalian and reptilian walking gaits, allowing it to move in any direction,” Hyundai said in a release.

According to Hyundai, the car does not have a power train inside the body rather each of the wheels has multiple axes of articulation. The electric motor is within the wheels themselves!

The body of the vehicle can be separated if required and it also allows access inside via a four-door system on all sides.

Of the many innovations we are seeing in the world of automobiles, this one from Hyundai certainly ‘Elevates’ the bar for competitors.
