(Bloomberg) -- GoPro Inc. named a Facebook Inc. executive to its board, aiming to draw on his experience in new media and consumer electronics.

Ty Ahmad-Taylor is vice president of product marketing at Facebook where he manages strategy and financial analysis. Prior to joining Facebook last year, he was chief executive officer of consumer electronics company THX Ltd. He has also held executive roles at Samsung Electronics Inc. and Viacom Inc, GoPro said in announcing the appointment.

“Ty hits the bullseye,” said Nicholas Woodman, GoPro’s chief executive officer and founder. “His expertise in new media and user interaction, coupled with his impressive leadership experience, will serve GoPro well as we continue to enhance our camera, app and cloud ecosystem.”

The appointment of Ahmad-Taylor comes almost two years after GoPro shuttered its entertainment division. The company has been narrowing its vision to focus on its hardware products and a better software experience, but is still struggling to sell more of its action cameras, as competition grows from cheaper alternatives and improving smartphone cameras.

In October, GoPro named Golden State Warriors President Rick Welts to its board, seeking to draw on his marketing and management experience.
