The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India released data for March 2021. Here are the key highlights:
Industry gross subscriber additions accelerated to 13.2 million month-on-month (8.3 million/~2 million in December 2020/FY21) to 1.18 billion in March 2021, reflecting gains from the launch of Jiophone.
Active subscriber additions too were healthy at 12 million, reaching 994 million, reversing the trend of low active gross subscribers for Reliance Jio, while the steady addition in Bharti Airtel Ltd. continued.
Jio’s monthly gross and active subscribers got a boost from the launch of Jiophone. It helped revive gross/active subscriber additions to 7.9 million/7.4 million versus a muted one to two million additions in the last six to seven months, taking its total base to 423 million/332 million.
