The Mid-cap and Small-cap indices turned briefly positive CY20 year-to-date and both the Mid-cap and Small-cap indices continued outperforming the Nifty in August 2020 by 5%/8%.

August 2020 recorded highest foreign institutional investor (FII) inflows ever September 2010.

Another important feature of August 2020 was the relative outperformance of discretionary companies versus staples.

Companies impacted by Covid-19 i.e. airlines/hotels/retail/multiplexes all posted stellar gains.

On the macro front, India’s GDP Q1 FY21 declined 24% – the worst amongst peers.

Meanwhile, corporate earnings turned out better than our muted expectations in Q1 FY21 and our Nifty earning per share estimates saw a marginal uptick of 2-2.5% for FY21/22.
