Nirmal Bang Report
In the first fortnight of May 2021, the second wave seems to be nearing a peak with the increase in actives cases at only 15.9% over the fortnight, levels last seen in February 2021.
Meanwhile, the number of deaths increased by 64.4%, with the increase similar to levels seen in June 2020.
The turn in the virus curve has obviously come on the back of lockdowns and containment measures across states which have in turn resulted in a sharp fall in mobility.
The New Delhi traffic congestion index is down to levels last seen in April 2020. Google mobility even for essentials is down to May 2020 levels.
Despite signs of the second wave nearing peak, subsequent waves cannot be entirely ruled out with only 3.1% of the population fully vaccinated.
