India Aviation - Air Travel Continues To Accelerate In Sept. As Covid-19 Infection Trajectory Descends: ICRA

ICRA Research Report

For September 2021, domestic passenger traffic is estimated at ~68-69 lakh, implying a sequential growth of ~2-3% compared to ~67.0 lakh in August 2021, and a YoY growth of ~74%.

The airlines’ capacity deployment for September 2021 was around 54% higher than September 2020.

On a sequential basis, the number of departures in September 2021 were higher by ~6%, as Covid-19 infections demonstrated a downward trajectory.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation permitted increasing the capacity deployment on domestic routes to 85.0% from 72.5% earlier with effect from September 18, 2021.

The aviation turbine fuel prices in October 2021 have been higher by 78.6% on a YoY basis, attributed to the low base of October 2020, when the prices declined YoY by 38.1% due to the impact of the pandemic.
