ICICI Securities: India’s Daily Fliers Weekly Average Inching Towards 80,000

Weekly average daily fliers came in at 38,000, 60,000, 68,000, 66,000, 65,000, 68,000, 66,000, 65,000, 69,000, 75,000 and 79,000 in the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth and eleventh week respectively post the resumption of domestic air travel from May 25, 2020 versus 391 average daily fliers in the months of May-June-July 2019.
The number of fliers per departure increased to 95 in the week ending August 08, 2020 versus 90 in the week ending August 01, 2020. Average departures remained unchanged at 833 per day for the same period.
These are early trends and should improve going ahead at a rate that would depend upon the trajectory of Covid-19 impact. Since the resumption of domestic air travel, number of departures per day has averaged at 737, which is 26% of the average number of daily departures registered in May-June-July 2019.
