76th Golden Globes: ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Wins Best Picture - Drama

The annual Hollywood awards season has kicked off with the 2019 Golden Globe Awards, organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HPFA) at Beverly Hills, California.

Veteran actor Michael Douglas has won the first award of the night for his performance as the lead in the Netflix Original series The Kominsky Method.

The mind-bending superhero flick Spider-man: Into The Spider-Verse has won Best Motion Picture - Animated.

Richard Madden known for playing Robb Stark in Game of Thrones has won the Best Actor award for his performance in the hit BBC political drama Bodyguard.

The long-running, highly acclaimed Cold War-era spy drama has won Best TV Series for it’s final season.

British actor Ben Whishaw, known for playing Q in the James Bond series, has won Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for the mini-series A Very English Scandal.

"He's a true queer hero and icon, and Norman (Scott) this is for you," Whishaw said of the real life character he played on the show.

Patricia Arquette has won the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for the mini-series Escape at Dannemora.

Veteran TV host Carol Burnett has won the inaugural Carol Burnett Award to recognize a lifetime achievement in television. "I am really gobsmacked by this," she said after the announcement. "Does this mean I get to accept it every year?"

Music composer Justin Hurwitz has won Best Original Score - Motion Picture for his work in the Damien Chazelle-directed biopic First Man.

The track "Shallow" from A Star Is Born has won Best Original Song - Motion Picture with the Globe being shared by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt.

"As a woman in music, it is really hard to be taken seriously as a musician and as a songwriter," Gaga said.

Regina King has won Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for her role in Moonlight director Barry Jenkins’ James Baldwin adaptation If Beale Street Could Talk.

Host Sandra Oh has won an award herself for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama. She received the Golden Globe for her performance in the series Killing Eve.

Moonlight actor Mahershala Ali has been awarded the Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture. He took home the statue for his role in the period race drama Green Book.

Writers Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie, and Peter Farrelly have won Best Screenplay - Motion Picture for their Viggo Mortensen-starrer Green Book. This is the second major the film has received this night.

Patricia Clarkson has won Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for HBO’s Sharp Objects.

Batman himself Christian Bale has won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for playing US Vice President Dick Cheney in Adam McKay’s political satire Vice.

Bale said in his acceptance speech, “I've got to find someone who be absolutely charisma-free and rivaled by everybody ... thank you for all the competition I will be cornering the market on charisma-free.” He went on to thank “Satan” for “giving me inspiration on how to play this role.”

Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron’s Mexican autobiographical drama Roma has won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Foreign Language. The Spanish-language Netflix original film is one of the most acclaimed of the year and a big contender for the Oscars.

Darren Kriss has won Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for the FX series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. Darren, who is half Filipino, claimed it was a “marvelous year for representation.”

Veteran actor Jeff Bridges, star of films like Tron and True Grit, has received the Cecil B. deMille Award.

Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron has won the Golden Globe for Best Director - Motion Picture for his Spanish language feature Roma. This is the rare occasion a non-English language film has won a major award as this.

Rachel Brosnahan has won Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Musical or Comedy for her role as the titular The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Netflix’s original comedy The Kominsky Method has won the Golden Globe for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy. The series stars Hollywood veterans Michael Douglas and Alan Alda.

FX’s mini-series The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story won the Golden Globe for Best Television Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.

The Crown star Olivia Colman won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ period comedy The Favourite.

She thanked her "b*tches" — co-stars in the film Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone. "Every second of working with you girls was such a joy," she said.

Colman then added about her experience on the sets: "I went on a private jet and I ate constantly throughout the film. It was brilliant."

Green Book, directed by Peter Farrelly and starring Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali walked away with its third and biggest prize of the evening with the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.

101 Dalmations-star Glenn Close has won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama for The Wife.

Mr Robot star Rami Malek has won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for the Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

The biopic of legendary Queen frontman Freddie Mercury Bohemian Rhapsody has won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture - Drama. The film was directed by Bryan Singer and features Rami Malek as Mercury.
