Bajrang Punia Wins Asian Games Gold: PM Modi Congratulates
Bajrang Punia wins the first gold medal for India.
Bajang Punia has won a gold in the 65 kg men’s wrestling match at the Asian Games 2018. Punia beat Japan’s Daichi Takatani.
A gold medallist from the 2018 Commonwealth Games earlier this year, Bajrang won all his bouts leading into the final by technical superiority, asserting his class in the 65kg category. The hashtag ‘Bajrang Punia’ started trending on Twitter in India.
The final against Daichi Takatani was a close-fought encounter but Bajrang managed to hold his lead throughout and close out the win with a 11-8 scoreline.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi called it a “Memorable Victory.”
Congratulations @BajrangPunia for the memorable victory in the 65 kg freestyle wrestling. This win is even more special because it is India's first Gold in the @asiangames2018. Best wishes for your future endeavours. #AsianGames2018
