Karunanidhi’s Medical Condition Has Deteriorated: Kauvery Hospital

In the latest medical bulletin, Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital announced that DMK President Karunanidhi’s medical condition has declined.

The hospital said “maintaining his vital organ functions continues to remain a challenge considering his age related ailments.”

A bulletin issued by Kauvery Hospital executive director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj on Thursday said, "There has been a slight decline in the health of M Karunanidhi due to age-related ailments. He is being monitored and treated round the clock by a team of medical and nursing professionals, who are providing hospital-level care at his (Gopalapuram) home."

After visiting Karunanidhi's residence to enquire about his health, AIADMK leader Panneerselvam said he was "doing well."

His cabinet colleague D Jayakumar said:

Karunanidhi's son and DMK working president MK Stalin received the AIADMK leaders, which also included ministers SP Velumeni and P Thangamani reported The News Minute. DMK leader Duraimurugan, A Raja and TR Baalu were also present, it was further reported.

Along with the AIADMK leaders, Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan also visited Karunanidhi's residence in Gapalapuram.

Tamil Nadu BJP president Tamilisai Soundararajan wished Karunanidhi a speedy recovery on Twitter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to say that he spoke to MK Stalin and Kanimozhi to inquire about Karunanidhi’s health condition.

President Ram Nath Kovind wished Karunanidhi a speedy recovery.

MK Stalin took to Twitter to thank PM Narendra Modi and Congress President rahul Gandhi for enquiring about Karunadhi’s health.

DMK party workers and supporters shouted slogans outside Gopalapuram, Karunanidhi’s residence and wished for his speedy recovery.

Arpudhamaal, mother of Perarivaalan who is accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assasination case, visited Gopalapuram to meet Karunanidhi.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu enquired about the health of M Karunanidhi and wished him a speedy recovery, reported ANI.

DMK MP Kanimozhi arrived at the residence of his father M Karunanidhi in Chennai's Gopalapuram, reported ANI.

DMK president M Karunanidhi was taken to Chennai's Kauvery Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday, 28 July. His supporters had gathered in large numbers outside his residence in Gopalapuram, when he was being shifted.

According to news channels, Karunanidhi has been admitted in the ICU, with a team of 20 doctors treating him.

Karunanidhi's son and DMK working president reportedly got emotional when Karunanidhi was being taken to the hospital.

Speaking after Karunanidhi was admitted to the hospital in the wee hours of Saturday, DMK leader A Raja said:

Minutes after Karunanidhi was rushed to the Kauvery Hospital as his condition deteriorated, a bulletin released by the executive director of the hospital said the DMK chief’s “blood pressure has been stabilised” and “he continues to be monitored and treated by the panel of expert doctors”.

The bulletin said Karunanidhi was admitted in the ICU at 1:30 am on Saturday, after his blood pressure dropped.

As Karunanidhi was rushed to Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday, prayers poured in. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wished him a speedy recovery in a tweet.

Even Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palanisamy enquired about his health from MK Stalin.

Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday morning visited Karunanidhi, a few hours after the ailing DMK supremo was rushed to the hospital. A few hours later, TTV Dhinakaran, too, visited him.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who visited Karunanidhi at Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital, said his health is improving.

He further added that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi “directed us to enquire about his health”.

The second bulletin released by Kauvery Hospital said Karunanidhi’s health condition continues to be stable while he is currently being monitored by a panel of experts in the ICU.

Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’ Brien, who visited Karunanidhi at Kauvery Hospital, said that doctors are doing their best to treat him.

“On behalf of the TMC and Mamata Banerjee, I came here to meet the families.
She also spoke to the family on the phone. Doctors are doing their best. We hope for the best, and our good wishes with the family. But age is against him”, he said.

Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu visited Kauvery hospital to inquire about Karunanidhi’s health. MDMK’s Vaiyapuri Gopalsamy, otherwise known as Vaiko, and DMK leader K Anbazhagan’s also visited.

Additional police forces have been posted outside the Kauvery hospital in Chennai’s Alwarpet area.

VCK Thirumavalavan said that he too wishes like the rest of Tamil Nadu that M Karunanidhi makes a comeback to politics.

DMK working President MK Stalin told the media that Karunandhi’s condition was stable.

“He continues to be under keen observation of the doctors. M Karunanidhi's condition is stable as stated in yesterday's medical bulletin,” said Stalin.

Speaking to the media after visiting the Kauvery Hospital to inquire about Karunanidhi's health, MDMK chief Vaiko said that the DMK president's condition was absolutely stable without any support.

Congress President Rahul Gandhi visited Kauvery Hospital and met Karunanidhi.

He said that he wanted to meet Karunanidhi and was quite happy to see he is doing well.

After meeting Karunanidhi at the Kauvery Hospital on Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to wish him speedy recovery, “ Wonderful to see that the Tamil fighting spirit that has endeared him to millions, is still strong! I join his fans all around the world, his well wishers and his family, in wishing him a speedy recovery. ”

Kauvery Hospital in its latest medical bulletin stated that Karunanidhi will be hospitalised for an extended period due to age related overall decline in health, altered liver function and hematological parameters.

The bulletin further added that he continues to maintain vital signs with active medical support.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took to Twitter on Tuesday, praying for the healthy recovery of the DMK president.

Actor Rajinikanth on Tuesday visited Kauvery Hospital in Chennai to check on Karunanidhi. After meeting the leader’s family at the hospital, Rajinikanth said, “I came to enquire about the country's senior most leader Karunanidhi's health condition. I gave my consoling words to Alagiri, Stalin, Kanimozhi and the others. I pray to God that Karunanidhi should recover soon.”
