Maintaining Karunanidhi’s vital organ functions continues to remain a challenge considering his age related ailments: Hospital

In the latest medical bulletin, Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital announced that DMK President Karunanidhi’s medical condition has declined.

The hospital said “maintaining his vital organ functions continues to remain a challenge considering his age related ailments.”

'Karunanidhi Being Monitored and Treated Round the Clock': Bulletin

A bulletin issued by Kauvery Hospital executive director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj on Thursday said, "There has been a slight decline in the health of M Karunanidhi due to age-related ailments. He is being monitored and treated round the clock by a team of medical and nursing professionals, who are providing hospital-level care at his (Gopalapuram) home."

The hospital also said that considering his medical condition, the team has strongly advised restriction of visitors. The bulletin came as the party was gearing up for celebrating Karunanidhi’s 50th year as party chief on Friday.

Karunanidhi's son and DMK working president MK Stalin received the AIADMK leaders, which also included ministers SP Velumeni and P Thangamani reported The News Minute. DMK leader Duraimurugan, A Raja and TR Baalu were also present, it was further reported.

Along with the AIADMK leaders, Makkal Needhi Maiam president Kamal Haasan also visited Karunanidhi's residence in Gapalapuram.

DMK president M Karunanidhi was taken to Chennai's Kauvery Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday, 28 July. His supporters had gathered in large numbers outside his residence in Gopalapuram, when he was being shifted.

According to news channels, Karunanidhi has been admitted in the ICU, with a team of 20 doctors treating him.

Karunanidhi's son and DMK working president reportedly got emotional when Karunanidhi was being taken to the hospital.

Bulletin released by the Kauvery Hospital. 

Minutes after Karunanidhi was rushed to the Kauvery Hospital as his condition deteriorated, a bulletin released by the executive director of the hospital said the DMK chief’s “blood pressure has been stabilised” and “he continues to be monitored and treated by the panel of expert doctors”.

The bulletin said Karunanidhi was admitted in the ICU at 1:30 am on Saturday, after his blood pressure dropped.

As Karunanidhi was rushed to Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday, prayers poured in. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wished him a speedy recovery in a tweet.
