A 1943 literary classic that puts individualism ahead of collectivism is among the favourite books of Kalyan Krishnamurthy, chief executive officer at Flipkart Group, and Deep Kalra, founder of MakeMyTrip.

They speak to BloombergQuint on some of the books that have helped shape their thinking.

1. Fountainhead, By Ayn Rand

This book is refreshing and has always inspired me to follow my dreams and not conform. The book has challenged me to be as demanding as possible in my own standards as well professional development. For me, this book is in essence all about independence of thinking.

1. Fountainhead, By Ayn Rand

It’s a book that is provocative, leads one to question the very basic ethics with nobody painted right or wrong and is all about your perspective of things. It’s a piece of fiction that has moved me with its intricate storyline and had left me awed and stupefied at the writer’s brilliance and ground-breaking philosophy.

2. Nuts, By Kevin & Jackie Freiberg

As someone who was trying to build a business around travel, this has been one of the most fascinating reads for me. Southwest Airlines’ success is unmatched in many ways and very well documented over the years.

The book is a sheer joy to read, to understand how people-focused work culture helped build a company that holds the distinction of being the only American airline to have registered profit year after year in a relentlessly competitive environment.

3. Good To Great, By Jim Collins

If you are the kind of person who likes to connect dots and see patterns, you don’t have to look beyond this one when you want to know what makes some companies truly great. The riveting research in this book explains how greatness is truly rare but achievable if you stick to some core tenets. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to be a better version of yourself.
