Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd. said it has taken initiatives at the entry level and mid-management level to include more women in the workforce.

The drugmaker, the only Indian firm on Bloomberg’s Gender-Equality Index, created a separate role of ‘hospital service executive’ for women who had taken a break after maternity leave, MV Ramana, chief executive officer of branded markets, India and emerging markets at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, said at Bloomberg Equality Summit in Mumbai. “We created a dermo-cosmetic segment, which is led by female representatives.”

“A large number of leaders in the company are women in most of the emerging markets we operate and they dominate the workforce as well as the senior leadership positions,” Ramana said, adding that India is challenging since women play dual roles of being an employee and caretaker at home.

The company has about 23,000 employees across the globe, of which India has 18,000 employees, according to Bloomberg.

We have started initiatives at the entry level and mid-management level to increase the number and ensure that Dr. Reddy’s treats employees in an unbiased manner.
