Delaware’s 19807 -- “Chateau Country” -- is home to descendants of industrialist E.I. duPont. Several former Dupont mansions are open to the public, including Winterthur and the Hagley Museum & Library.

Wealthy Mountain Brook, Alabama, 35223, earned its nickname of “Tiny Kingdom” because it stands out from the rest of state, one of the nation’s poorest.

In Arkansas, Bentonville, 72712, home of retail giant Walmart Inc. and the founding Walton family, takes the top spot with an average income of more than $200,000.

Chattanooga suburb, Tiny Lookout Mountain, is wealthiest in Tennessee. While beach communities of Fisher Island, Florida; Sea Island, Georgia; and Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina lead states along the southeast Atlantic seaboard.

Almost half of the top 50 richest zip codes in the South are in Florida while the richest in poverty-stricken West Virginia -- Charleston, 25314 -- ranks 1,470 nationally, the lowest ranking nationally of any state’s top ranked zip code.
