Union Cabinet Portfolio Allocation: Amit Shah Gets Home, Sitharaman New Finance Minister

Amit Shah will be the home minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new cabinet, while Nirmala Sitharaman has been named the finance minister, the second woman to hold the portfolio. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, former foreign secretary, is the new external affairs minister.

Modi took oath for the second straight time as the prime minister of India in a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. President Ram Nath Kovind sworn in Modi, 24 cabinet ministers and 33 ministers of state. Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj, among a few others, however, weren’t part of the new Modi cabinet.

Here’s how the portfolios have been allocated:

24-Member Modi Cabinet

Amit Shah, former Foreign Affairs Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Shiv Sena’s Arvind Sawant and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Ramesh Pokhriyal, Arjun Munda and Pralhad Joshi are the first-time cabinet ministers in the new Modi cabinet.
