Turkey reported 119 new coronavirus fatalities on Tuesday, bringing the death toll from the outbreak to 2,259, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said in a Twitter post.

The number of confirmed cases now stands at 95,591, 5.1% higher than Monday. Turkey screened 39,429 people over the past 24 hours with 4,611 testing positive for the virus, Koca said.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a lockdown in the country’s largest cities starting from April 23, which is a public holiday, through April 26. It comes after similar measures over two consecutive weekends that saw tens of millions of people stay in their homes to slow the spread of the virus. Weekend curfews will probably continue for a while, Erdogan said.
