Trump's Overall Health Good But Weight Qualifies Him as Obese

(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump is in “very good health” overall his doctor said, but his weight qualifies him as obese, according to medical results the White House released on Thursday.

Trump’s weight is 243 pounds, up 4 pounds since his 2018 physical, and his height is 6 feet, 3 inches, his physician Sean Conley said in a memorandum. That makes his body-mass index 30.4, according to the National Institutes of Health. A BMI of 30 or greater is considered obese, according to the agency.

Trump, 72, had his latest physical as president last week at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, which involved about four hours of exams and tests.

“After taking into account all the laboratory results, examinations and specialist recommendations, it is my determination that the president remains in very good health overall,” Conley said. He didn’t say if he had advised Trump to increase his exercise, adjust his diet, or otherwise take measures to improve his health.

Doctors last year recommended Trump exercise more, change his diet and set a goal of losing 10 to 15 pounds within a year. White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said last week that Trump hadn’t “religiously” followed the diet and exercise guidance.

Conley said Trump’s level of “bad” LDL cholesterol was 122, which is considered “near optimal/above optimal” by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. His total cholesterol was 196, which is considered “desirable,” the agency says.

Trump’s dose of a cholesterol drug called rosuvastatin, which is sold under the brand name Crestor, was increased to the maximum recommendation of 40 milligrams per day, Conley said. Trump also received two vaccinations to protect against bacterial infection and shingles.
