Texas Wins Appeal to Kick Planned Parenthood Out of Medicaid

(Bloomberg) -- Texas can kick Planned Parenthood out of Medicaid after a U.S. appeals court ruled that undercover videos showed clinic workers violating medical and ethical standards, rendering the facilities unfit as service providers under federal guidelines.

Planned Parenthood -- and federal judges in other cases involving the videos -- say the videos are fakes that were maliciously edited by anti-abortion activists to make it appear that workers and administrators were harvesting fetal body parts for sale.

Thursday’s ruling by a three-judge panel of the New Orleans appellate court was written by U.S. Circuit Judge Edith Jones, a long-time abortion critic who was appointed to the court by President Ronald Reagan. The ruling cites the video footage as proof that Planned Parenthood doesn’t deserve federal funds earmarked to provide medical care to poor people.
