Spain Thinks Coronabonds Are a Good Idea, Foreign Minister Says

(Bloomberg) --

Europe needs a “comprehensive” response to the economic impact of coronavirus to convince markets and reduce volatility, according to Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez.

While Spain, Italy and France think issuing coronabonds is “a good idea” there are diverging views within the European Union and “the discussion is ongoing,” Gonzalez said in an interview with Bloomberg TV Wednesday. But what “will convince markets” is a unified response from Europe, Gonzalez said.

Europe is still calibrating the fiscal response to the impact of the outbreak, Gonzalez said.
