South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is making good progress in his recovery from Covid-19, after testing positive for the virus on Dec. 12, the presidency said.

“The president is in good spirits and comfortable in his recovery,” his office said in a statement on Friday.

Ramaphosa, 69, has been in self-isolation in Cape Town since testing positive and is being treated for mild symptoms.

South Africa registered a record 26,976 daily coronavirus infections on Dec. 15 amid a fourth wave of cases that’s being driven by the omicron variant. The government will next week review measures in place to curb the spread of the disease, Health Minister Joe Phaahla said earlier on Friday.
