Sinn Fein Leader Tests Positive for Virus; Felt ‘Very Unwell’

(Bloomberg) --

Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald said she expects to be back at work next week, after testing positive for the coronavirus and “being very unwell.”

McDonald received a positive diagnosis for Covid-19 on Monday after a March 28 test, the party said in an email statement.

”The Public Health Doctor informs me that I am no longer infected or infectious, and this is a great relief after weeks of being very unwell,” McDonald said. “I had a setback in my recovery at the weekend and developed post-viral pleurisy in my right lung. I am on medication and responding very well, and I fully expect to be back at work next Monday.”

Under McDonald, Sinn Fein won the biggest share of votes in Ireland’s general election in February. However, with both of Ireland’s historic parties of government, Fine Gael and Fianna Fail, refusing to enter a coalition with the nationalist republican party, it’s set to to be excluded from power.
