Scotland Has to Tame Pandemic Before Independence Vote: Sturgeon

Scotland won’t call a new referendum on independence until the pandemic is under control, according to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

“This is not just about safety of polling stations,” Sturgeon said in an interview with Sky News Sunday morning. She also warned on the recent spike in cases in Scotland, which is pressuring its health services.

The Scottish politician said in May the country will hold another referendum once it has emerged from the coronavirus pandemic.

“I don’t think that kind of situation would be a good backdrop for the country considering and making a big decision on its future,” Sturgeon said.
