Rwandan Police Shoot Two People Defying Virus Lockdown Orders

(Bloomberg) -- Rwandan police shot and killed two people who attacked officers while on routine patrol.

The “deceased attacked and wrestled to the ground a police officer who was on routine patrol,” Rwanda Police said on its Twitter account. “This prompted his colleague to fire at the attackers in self defense.”

The incident comes as the East African country imposes a two-week lockdown, from March 22, as a measure to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Rwanda has 41 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

“People should not confuse the measures taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19 with this unfortunate incident,” the police said on Twitter.
