Romanian PM-Designate Plans to Stick to Deadline for New Cabinet

Romanian Prime Minister-Designate Nicolae Ciuca is determined to meet a deadline and submit the lineup of his proposed government to Parliament by Sunday as talks over winning support continue.

Ciuca dismissed the possibility of giving up his mandate even if he hasn’t managed to form majority after six days of talks with two parties, the Social Democrats and USR. He plans to have more meetings with their leaders in the coming days.

Earlier on Wednesday, Liberal Party leader Florin Citu didn’t rule out restoring the previous coalition “after a face-to-face” meeting with USR leaders. However, no meeting has been called with USR, the party’s spokesman said, indicating that negotiations haven’t even begun.

“We haven’t closed the door of negotiations to anyone,” Ciuca said. “I will play my cards till the last move.”
