PM Modi To Address The Nation At 10 a.m.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the nation at 10 a.m today. The address was confirmed through a tweet from the official PMO India Twitter handle.
This comes a day after India hit the 100-crore Covid-19 vaccine milestone, a feat that took nearly nine months.
However, India has only given two shots to nearly 21% of its population of about 1.4 billion, according Bloomberg’s vaccine tracker. By comparison, 51% have had a single dose, making it one of the highest disparities in the world, the tracker shows.
Neighboring China, the only nation to dish out more vaccine doses than India, has fully inoculated some 1.05 billion, or 75% of its citizens, as of late September.
While experts had predicted India would see a third wave of infections in September and October, official daily case tallies have fallen to lows last seen during a lull at the beginning of 2021.
India’s states have cautiously eased movement restrictions and curfews, with malls, cinemas, gyms and swimming pools newly reopened in recent weeks.
