Poland Summons Belarus Envoy Over Armed Men Intrusion
(Bloomberg) -- Poland has summoned Belarussian charge d’affaires in Warsaw to protest an intrusion into its territory of “uniformed individuals armed with long guns.”
The incident, which took place on the night from Monday to Tuesday, amounts to a “deliberate escalation,” Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website on Wednesday.
Earlier this year, Poland erected a barbed-wire fence on the border with its eastern neighbor, declared a state of emergency and sent thousands of troops to patrol the area amid a surge in arrivals of undocumented migrants from Belarus.
Lithuania, Latvia and Poland have accused Belarus of organizing flights for migrants from central Asia and helping them to cross the border as “hybrid attack” on the European Union.
