Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8:00 pm today, his office said on Thursday. The official Twitter handle of the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted about the time of the speech.

During his address to the nation, PM Narendra Modi is expected to explain the government's decisions on revoking Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir and splitting the state into two union territories of J&K and Ladakh, sources said.

The last time he addressed the nation was on March 27 when he announced Mission Shakti—India's anti-satellite missile capability by shooting down a live satellite.

On Tuesday, the Parliament approved a resolution revoking the Article 370 of the Constitution of India that granted Jammu & Kashmir administrative autonomy. The House also cleared the Jammu & Kashmir (Reorganisation) Bill, 2019, to split the state into two union territories.

Modi’s proposed address to nation comes days before the prime minister's customary Independence Day speech from the ramparts of Red Fort on Aug. 15.
