Norway’s Prime Minister Defends Measures to Combat Coronavirus

(Bloomberg) -- Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg defended her handling of the coronavirus crisis, saying drastic measures are necessary to save lives and jobs.

The government has to ensure the health-care system can keep operating, Solberg wrote in the newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv. The measures also are necessary to prevent the virus from spreading out of control, Solberg said.

Norway has extended until April 13 a ban on large gatherings, school closures and mandatory isolation for infected people. Critics have said the measures could ruin the economy.
