A day after #NotInMyName protests against mob lynchings took place in 19 cities in India and five cities abroad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi categorically stated that killing people in the name of Gau Bhakti or cow worship is unacceptable.

Taking to Twitter, Modi stressed that violence is never a solution to any problem. Modi expressed sadness on some of the recent acts of violence by cow vigilantes. Insisting that the animal must be protected, Modi also pointed out the role played by Mahatma Gandhi and Acharya Vinoba Bhave both of whom advocated against cow slaughter but adopted peaceful means to drive the point across.
