Underwood to Be New York State’s Top Lawyer After James’ Election

(Bloomberg) -- New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood has been chosen to serve as solicitor general for her replacement, Letitia "Tish" James, who won election on Tuesday and takes office Jan. 1.

James, the first black woman elected to statewide office in New York, said in a statement Thursday that Underwood, who was picked in May to finish Eric Schneiderman’s term, is "exceptionally qualified" for the role. Underwood was solicitor general in the AG’s office from 2007 until May.
