Menendez Holds New Jersey Senate Seat for Democrats

(Bloomberg) -- U.S. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey won a third term, turning back a challenge by Republican Bob Hugin, the former Celgene Corp. chairman, according to projections from ABC and NBC.

New Jersey hasn’t sent a Republican to the Senate since 1972. Menendez was admonished in April by a Senate committee for accepting unreported gifts and travel from a Florida doctor who now is serving a prison sentence for insurance fraud. Polls showed that voters had concerns about his ethics, even among Democrats. Hugin was a self-funding multimillionaire who cast the incumbent as morally unfit.
