Media Rivals CNN and Fox on Same Side in Fight Against Trump

(Bloomberg) -- Long-time cable news rivals CNN and Fox News are on the same side in a fight against the Trump administration’s decision to revoke the press pass of CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta.

They’re joined by a dozen other news outlets objecting to the move, which followed a Nov. 7 press conference where Acosta refused to yield a microphone to a White House press aide. He persisted in questioning President Donald Trump, who lambasted the correspondent as a “rude, terrible person.”

In a joint statement Wednesday, the news organizations said, “Reporters covering the White House must remain free to ask questions. It is imperative that independent journalists have access to the president and his activities and that journalists are not barred for arbitrary reasons.”

The news organizations siding with CNN plan to file a "friend-of-court” brief urging a judge to order the administration to reinstate Acosta’s pass to the White House. They are:

A hearing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Washington federal court.
