London Pubs, Restaurants, Cinemas Set to Be Told to Close

(Bloomberg) --

London’s pubs, restaurants, leisure centers, and cinemas will be told to close to stop the spread of coronavirus, under plans expected to be agreed to on Friday, an official said.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his team have become frustrated with the refusal of Londoners to follow his instructions to avoid unnecessary social gatherings. He warned this week that if they continue to fail to stay out of pubs and bars, he will take stronger action to restrict group activities in the capital, which is the center of the U.K. outbreak.

Officials are due to decide to approve measures to order the closure of restaurants, bars and leisure premises at a meeting on Friday. Shops are expected to remain open.
