Lebanon’s Prime Minister Fears ‘the Worst’ on Border With Israel

Lebanon’s premier urged calm after Israel’s military said its forces clashed with the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group in a frontier area between the two countries.

“I call for caution in the coming days because I fear things are slipping into the worst amid high tension on the border,” Prime Minister Hassan Diab said.

Israel seeks to amend the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon -- which monitors security at the border with Israel -- and the rules of engagement, Diab said during a meeting of the Higher Defense Council.
