Klobuchar Checks Inslee’s Claim on Abortion Rights Leadership

(Bloomberg) -- Washington Governor Jay Inslee tried to make his moment on the Democratic debate stage by singling out his role in advancing abortion rights, but Senator Amy Klobuchar was quick to grab it from him.

During an exchange on health care, Inslee said insurance companies should not have the option of denying women coverage for exercising their constitutional right to an abortion and took credit for being “the only candidate here who has passed a law protecting a woman’s reproductive right in health insurance.”

Klobuchar would not have it.

“I just want to say there are three women up here who have fought pretty hard for a woman’s right to choose,” the Minnesota senator said. “I’ll start with that,” turning back to the question of universal health care.
