Italy Premier Conte Says Government Is ‘Wobbling,’ Stampa Says

(Bloomberg) -- Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte expressed concern about pressures on the populist government, including possible legal action against Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini over the migrants issue, La Stampa reports.

“The government is wobbling,” La Stampa quoted Conte as saying, as he summed up the coalition’s position before he left for Tuesday’s summit of Mediterranean country leaders in Cyprus.

Salvini’s firm stance on migrants and possible legal action against him have turned into a “bomb” in relations between his League party and governing coalition partner Five Star Movement, Stampa reported.

The government is also facing pressure on issues including a planned high-speed rail link to France and the possible withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan, according to La Stampa.
