Israel Army Intel Says Iran Intends to Expand Operations in Iraq

(Bloomberg) -- Iran is changing the pattern of its entrenchment in Syria and is intending to expand militarily into Iraq too, according to an Israeli army intelligence report.

Following multiple Israeli strikes, Iran has decided to deploy troops in western Iraq, far from Israel’s border, Haaretz says, citing the report. Iran wants to deploy militias and set up missile launchers there to threaten Israel and safeguard a corridor to transfer weapons and forces to Lebanon, Haaretz said.

The economic sanctions have led to a sharp decrease in Iran’s funding of Hezbollah, and is causing hardship in the group, the newspaper said.
