India will host the ministers of Japan, Australia and the U.S., the grouping informally known as Quad, later this year.

The south Asian nation will also host a meeting of its foreign and defense ministers with their U.S. counterparts before year end, Anurag Srivastava, the spokesman for the Indian foreign ministry said in a media briefing on Thursday. Details of both meetings are being worked out, he said.

India’s defense and foreign ministers Rajnath Singh and Subrahmanyam Jaishankar will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meetings being organized by Russia this week, in which China is also expected to participate. Srivastava didn’t clarify whether the Indian ministers will meet their Chinese counterparts at the conference. Relations between Beijing and New Delhi, fraught since May after a border conflict in the high Himalayas, have worsened this week with a spike in border hostilities.
