(Bloomberg) -- When the novel coronavirus began infecting the world, many feared that its arrival in India would spell disaster for global efforts to stem the spread.
So when the first wave ebbed with official mortality data showing the nation of 1.4 billion people wasn’t as badly affected as others, India was celebrated as a unique country, one that wouldn’t succumb to a pandemic that had gripped the world.
