Gundlach Turns From Buttigieg Fan to Critic in Debate Tweets
(Bloomberg) -- Jeffrey Gundlach found fault with the performance by Pete Buttigieg in Thursday’s Democratic presidential debate a month after the billionaire bond manager lauded the mayor of South Bend, Indiana’s showing.
“Mayor Pete is not killing it tonight,” Gundlach, the billionaire chief executive officer of DoubleLine Capital LP, tweeted, following a November debate comment that “Mayor Pete killed it tonight.”
Buttigieg, who has led some polls in Iowa, the first caucus in the Democratic primary for president, came under fire from other candidates. including Senators Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar, for his fundraising and limited political experience.
Michael Bloomberg is also seeking the Democratic nomination. He is the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News.
Gundlach also criticized Buttigieg’s support for compensation to children separated from parents trying to enter the U.S. illegally and considering reparations for descendants of American slaves.
“I guess “reparation” and “immigration” do sound kinda the same. Hoo boy.” Gundlach tweeted.
After last debate, Gundlach said, “I have never endorsed a political candidate. I am not doing so now nor will I in the 2020 presidential race.”
