GOP Chairwoman McDaniel Tested For Coronavirus After Falling Ill

(Bloomberg) -- Ronna Romney McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, has been tested for the Covid-19 virus after experiencing fever and flu-like symptoms.

“She went to her local hospital in Michigan for treatment,” RNC communications director Michael Ahrens said in a statement posted on Twitter.

After flu and strep tests came back negative, McDaniel’s doctor determined that a test for the novel coronavirus was necessary, Ahrens said. An update will be provided when test results are available, he said.

In the meantime, McDaniel and her family are self-quarantining at home.

“We are contacting everyone the chairwoman remembers coming into contact with in recent days,” Ahrens said.

McDaniel has been a coronavirus skeptic, blaming Democrats for attempting to spread panic and undermine President Donald Trump.

“Unfortunately, Democrats are using this as an opportunity to sow division and scare the American people,” she said this week on the Fox Nation show “Reality Check with David Webb.”
