Giuliani Associate Lev Parnas Can No Longer Afford Two Attorneys

(Bloomberg) -- Lev Parnas, the indicted associate of Rudy Giuliani, is no longer able to pay for both his attorneys, one of his lawyers said in a request to a judge to withdraw from the case.

“Since I entered my appearance, Mr. Parnas’ apparent ability to fund his defense has diminished,” attorney Edward MacMahon Jr. said in a filing Wednesday with the federal court in Manhattan. “It thus would constitute a significant hardship for Mr. Parnas to continue being represented by two attorneys in this matter.”

Parnas will continue to be represented by New York-based criminal defense attorney Joseph Bondy, according to the filing.

Parnas is a Ukrainian-born U.S. citizen who’s charged with seeking to launder foreign money into U.S. elections. He had been working with Giuliani to dig up political dirt in Ukraine on Hunter Biden and his father, former Vice President Joe Biden, Donald Trump’s top Democratic rival in next year’s presidential election.
