Florida Republican Carlos Curbelo Concedes to Democrat

(Bloomberg) -- Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell flipped Florida’s 26th Congressional District, toppling two-term Representative Carlos Curbelo, one of the most moderate House Republicans, who conceded the race. Associated Press projected Mucarsel-Powell as the winner.

The district, which stretches from the Miami suburbs through the Keys, backed Hillary Clinton in 2016 and was a top target for Democrats. Mucarsel-Powell, an immigrant from Ecuador, connected with south Florida voters on policy issues including preventing gun violence, expanding access to health care and protecting the environment.
