The Delhi and District Cricket Association has decided to rename Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium as Arun Jaitley Stadium as a homage to its former president.

The renaming will take place on Sept. 12 at a function. A stand at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium will be named after India cricket captain Virat Kohli, as announced earlier.

Jaitley, a former finance minister of India, died on Aug. 24, due to complications following an extended period of bad health. He was 66.

"It was Arun Jaitley's support and encouragement that players like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Rishabh Pant and many others could make India proud,” said DDCA President Rajat Sharma on Tuesday.

During his tenure as DDCA president, Jaitley renovated the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, increasing its capacity to accommodate more fans besides constructing world-class dressing rooms.

The renaming function, to be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, will be graced by the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.
