Dan Goldman, Counsel in Trump Impeachment, to Run for New York AG

Daniel Goldman, a former Russian-mob-busting federal prosecutor from the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan who served as counsel for House Democrats in the first Trump impeachment probe, said he would run for New York Attorney General on Tuesday.

“I’ve been on the front lines as a prosecutor and as impeachment counsel of Donald Trump,” he said in a video message posted on Twitter. “Now it’s time to lead again in today’s big fights.”

In his announcement, he said he would also focus on the National Rifle Association, climate change, abortion and “rogue CEOs” on Wall Street.

“For too long, Wall Street has played by a different set of rules than Main Street. And so have some of our presidents,” Goldman said.

Goldman is running for the seat currently held by Attorney General Letitia James, who last month announced her run for the 2022 New York governor race. The New York Attorney General is one of the state’s most high profile elected positions and is often seen as a launching pad for higher office.
